Ants incl. Solenopsis invicta (red imported fire ant)
Florida runs on ant pressure: ghost ants trailing through kitchens, carpenter ants in damp wood, and fire ants building mounds in the sunniest part of the lawn. Baits beat sprays — spraying a trail kills scouts and splits colonies into more colonies.
Signs you have them
- Thin trails along baseboards, counters, or the dishwasher
- Sandy mounds in the lawn that boil when disturbed
- Winged swarmers indoors after rain
- Sawdust-like frass near window frames (carpenter ants)
What you can do today, free
- Wipe trails with soapy water to erase the scent line, then leave bait where they were
- Keep pet food bowls up between meals
- Don’t kick fire-ant mounds — colonies relocate and multiply
Questions, answered straight
Why do ants come back right after I spray?
Over-the-counter sprays kill the workers you can see, not the queen. The colony reroutes within days. Slow-acting baits that workers carry home are what actually end it.
Are fire ants covered?
Yes — fire ants in the lawn are covered by the Lawn Bug Plan ($99/visit) and the Total Bundle. Interior ant trails are covered by the Pest Plan ($119/quarter).
